These books helped me tremendously in getting the breadth and depth of knowledge and skills that are needed to do TDD more effectively and I am confident that they can help you on your journey of adoption as well. It is by no means a complete list but these are the ones that I refer to most often, even now that I think I have a fairly good understanding of TDD.
The books listed below were instrumental to my growth and success in learning and applying TDD in my own development work. So, I'll often cite the books that I used to learn TDD, like those written by Martin Fowler and Michael Feathers on refactoring, Robert "Uncle Bob" Martin and Corey Haines about design, and Kent Beck and Uncle Bob about Extreme Programming and TDD.

If you're serious about learning how to do TDD properly, you'll need to build up a level of knowledge and skill that can only be attained through diligent study and practice. You've only started to scratch the surface there. As a coach who specializes in Agile technical practices, I'm often asked to provide a list of books and other references that go into more details about some of the concepts I introduce during presentations and workshops.įor example, in a presentation that I give about Test-Driven Development, "A Closer Look at TDD: How It's Really NOT About Testing," I point out that there is much more to TDD than just writing unit tests first and following the Red/Green/Refactor cycle.
